We’re excited to announce our participation in the first annual NEEDTOBREATHE Classic to benefit PMI. Hopefully, if you’re a fan of ours, you have heard a lot about the great things PMI has been doing around the world. We wanted to take a second and tell you a little bit more about why we’re so passionate about them and let you know about some opportunities for you to be involved in the tournament.

I had the privilege of visiting Uganda with the PMI team in December 2011. Visiting a foreign a country can be anxiety-inducing in and of itself, but to be honest, I was most intimidated by the fact that I was not “medical” and was venturing to set-up medical clinics in rural Ugandan communities. Although my wife is a nurse and many of our friends work in the medical field, I get pale and squeamish even watching an episode of Rescue 911. So, what would a musician have to offer a foreign medical team? I expected this trip to be a challenge, would remove me from my comfort zone, and would hopefully expose me to things I had not yet learned.

Within a day or two of setting up, I found myself working in a mobile pharmacy in small town named Bulisa. Surprisingly, I loved it so much I wouldn’t let them put me anywhere else! For ten days, PMI allowed me to see their ongoing work and participate as a member of their team. Investing in something bigger than oneself and one’s talents is something we all have a quiet desire for but rarely get to experience.

My trip to Uganda was a small glimpse into the important work and critical needs that PMI is undertaking in Uganda. PMI has done a brilliant job of not only asking the right questions, but finding and committing to answers that work. This is what the NEEDTOBREATHE CLASSIC on March 19th is about and why we have a variety of ways for you to support this event.
