We had our first day of clinic today in Masindi. Just getting to the site was a challenge in itself.
Not only were we riding many miles down treacherous dirt roads, but we also came upon a section of road that had been completely washed over by a river. After several minutes of deliberation our drivers decided to brave the crossing. There was great rejoicing as van after van successfully made it safely to the other side.
We arrived at the clinic site to see a huge line of people waiting to be treated, many of whom had walked several miles the day before and spent the night there in anticipation of getting treatment. My job today was being a runner, which involved escorting patients from registration to the doctors and from the doctors to various other stations to get glasses, physical therapy and medicine. It gave me great opportunities to interact with people, many of which involved me showing them my tattoos.
I can’t wait to see what the rest of the week holds witnessing the incredible impact that PMI has on the lives of these wonderful people!
